Common Name: A broadleaved evergreen tree native to China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and parts of East Asia known as camphor tree, camphor laurel, shiu leaf, gum camphor, laurel camphor. Camphor tree has become naturalized in parts of Australia and also along the United States Gulf coast and in California.
Usage: Recommended for toothaches and for treating diarrhea, inflammation, itching, and other nervous conditions. Camphor has a numbing quality.
Precautions:Camphor is toxic to humans in large doses and can cause respiratory problems. Avoid during pregnancy.
Aroma: Camphor oil has a strong odor and a bitter taste. The oil feels cool on the skin similar to menthol.
